About me:
I grew up in Bath and came to London to study at St Martin's and Wimbledon Schools of Art. I was then employed at Usborne Publishing, designing and illustrating the children's Natural History book series, Naturetrail and Spotters' Guides.
In the 1980s I turned freelance, continuing to work for Usborne and for wildlife magazines, and travelling around England, painting townscapes of Bath, Brighton, Cambridge and London among others, exhibiting and selling locally. I was commissioned to create artist's impressions of pubs for refurbishment and houses for estate agents' magazines and brochures. At the same time I began accepting private commissions for watercolour portraits of houses, animals and children, which has formed the core of my work to this day.
About my work:
I work mainly in watercolour, although
I also produce drawings in pencil and pastel and paint in oils. My work
may be described as both representational and creative, characterised
by precise drawing and attention to detail. I specialise in watercolour
portraits of houses and other buildings, animals and children, often to
create gifts to mark family events or for special birthday or Christmas
presents.
Exhibitions:
In 1999 and 2002 I held solo
exhibitions of my work at the Cotman Gallery, King's College School,
Wimbledon. In 2003 I joined the
Worple Group of artists, Wimbledon, exhibiting with
them twice a year in the spring and autumn. In recent
years I have exhibited my work at the Landmark
Arts Centre, Teddington,Teddington, at their Autumn Arts Fair.
